So how do you actually fix the liquid damage on your MacBook after the water has been spilled on the MacBook?

Before we get to that it is imperative you understand what happens when liquid is spilled on your MacBook. You might have some questions on what a water damage repair on a MacBook entails, and we will try our best to explain as much as we can on this page.

MacBook Liquid Damage

This is what corrosion looks like after a MacBook logic board has been exposed to liquid

So what happens when you spill any kind of liquid on a MacBook? Well, MacBooks are complicated machines that have hundreds if not thousands of circuits on them. These circuits work together to bring your computer to life.

When you spill any kind of liquid on your computer, there usually is a surge of power along these circuits which can cause capacitors to explode. Now, this may not always be the case. Sometimes the oxidation from the water can just cause corrosion on these capacitors (or resistors) and just break the circuit that way too.

The latter is usually much easier to fix (and costs less too). So now that you know what happens when your MacBook is exposed to water, you’re probably wondering how much it will cost to get it fixed.

Apple will quote you between $850 to $1,600 to repair Macbook water damage. What they usually do is just replace the whole logicboard which is very inefficient. Think about it, if your car has a broken alternator, you don’t replace the whole engine! Apple is more interested in selling you a new computer rather than letting you use your existing one.

Every computer and repair is different so we will ask that you leave your MacBook with us for a little while and we will give you an estimate as to what it will cost.

Our estimates for MacBooks that do not have the thunderbolt ports (Older than 2016) are free! Newer models have a $50 diagnostic fee which is payable when you bring in the MacBook.

So what should you do after your MacBook has been exposed to liquid?

The first thing you should do is stop using it. Do not try to turn it on, do not charge it, and for god’s sake do not put it in rice (this will just cover everything in rice residue).

MacBook Water Damage

A corroded MacBook is a sad Macbook.

Rice simply absorbs water and you can achieve the same thing by flipping your MacBook upside down and leaving it to try — it’ll do the same thing but without coating everything in rice residue.

Next book an appointment with us or just stop by during our operating hours. We will take your device in and then give you a call with an estimate.

If you approve we go ahead with the repair and get your MacBook back to you in 2-5 business days depending on our workload at the time.

You might be wondering what our success rate is. We’ll we’ve been doing this for a very long time now and can get your device repaired more than 95% of the time.

We also offer a 1-month warranty on our MacBook water damage repair.

What should I do after a liquid spill on my MacBook?

As soon as you spill something on your machine you should stop using it! Turning it on will make it worse; electricity and water cause corrosion like the board in the picture. Even when damage is this extensive, we can repair it, but it is best to minimize damage.

If you are comfortable doing so, we suggest you pull out the battery. Do not try to turn on your MacBook because turning it on can cause a short inside the MacBook and make the water damage repair much harder.

We also suggest that you don’t plug your MacBook into the charger after you have exposed it to water. Charging your MacBook in this state will also short-circuit it, making water damage repair very difficult and could also damage some of the internal components of your MacBook.

Just bring it into Trek PC in Vancouver and we will have a look at it for you. Our initial diagnosis of the water damage (or any other kind of diagnosis) is free so you have nothing to lose by bringing it in.

Spilled some ice tea on my 2017 MacBook Pro (wasn’t too happy about that). Googled repair for MacBook Ice Tea Spill Repair and these guys came up so I figured I’d give them a chance. They did a good job and the only reason I’m giving 4 stars is that it took them 5 days to do the repair instead of the 3-4 they said it would.

I stupidly knocked over my glass of water while I was working on an important research paper for school and it landed directly on the keyboard of my MacBook Pro. The computer shut off right away!

Immediately I started freaking out trying to figure out what I could do to get my work back and my computer running again. I went to the apple store and they told me I had to replace the logic board which would cost me $1,200 and that they would not be able to get my data back for me.

As you can imagine I was fuming at the thought of having to pay that much and not get my data back. I immediately started looking in google for other options and I found Trek PC. I’m so glad that I came here because not only were they able to get my data back but they also fixed up my MacBook for a lot less than what apple quoted me!

The staff was very friendly and helpful and they were able to get me up and running again quickly. Highly Recommended!
